Dr. J. R. (Bert) Dodd

Dr. J. R. Dodd, DVM

A 1979 graduate of Texas A&M’s College of Veterinary Medicine, Dodd opened the Hiway 620 Animal Hospital in Austin, TX, in 1981. He received the TAVP Clinical Referral and Consultation Award for 2006. He recently recieved the TVMA Medical Specialty of the Year Award in 2008. Dodd is also a Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College and is a past President of the Academy of Veterinary Dentistry. Teaching veterinary dentistry to other veterinarians, veterinary students and veterinary technicians is one of his passions as he lectures throughout the United States. In 2004, Dodd was chosen “Fellow of the Year” by the Academy for his dedication to teaching dentistry to his colleagues. His time is devoted to teaching students how to treat dental problems in pets. Outside of veterinary dentistry, Dodd loves woodworking and baseball.

Tommy Koenig, RVT, VTS

Tommy Koenig, a Registered Veterinary Technician, is a 1982 graduate of Texas State Technical Institute. He has 23 years of veterinary experience working for the Fayette County Veterinary Clinic in La Grange and at the Hiway 620 Animal Hospital and Dental Clinic in Austin. He joined Dr. J.R. (Bert) Dodd in the Austin clinic in1988 where he received extensive veterinary dentistry training. He is now working full-time with Dr. Dodd in the Small Animal Dental Service at the College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences at Texas A&M University.

Koenig is a Charter member of the Academy of Veterinary Dental Technicians (AVDT) and presently serves on its Exam and Education Committees. He has also achieved specialty status for veterinary technicians in dentistry. Koenig is a past vice-president and secretary of the Texas Association of Registered Veterinary Technicians (TARVT), and has served as secretary of the Capital Area Hospital Managers Association. He was the TVMA Technician of the Year in 2004.

In his free time, Koenig enjoys fishing and taking care of his dog, cat and donkey at his home in Fayette County.
